28th April 2015
Windsurfing: Levington
Wind Direction: w
Wind Stength: 18/25
Surf / Sea State: river chop
Air Temperature: 12
Sea Temperature: 9
Weather: sunny periods
Max Speed: 27.82 (knots - unless stated otherwise)

Second day in a row out on the longboard and with the wind from the west Levington was the only option. I hitched the trailer at 10, loaded Mags bike too so she could ride the 6 miles back and set off, at the marina there were cones stopping you parking by the river so we had to stop a little short and walk about 75m which was ok. Mag set off at 10.15 on a lovely ride through the Suffolk countryside while I carried my long board to the launch spot at the marina entrance, with the tide dropping this was the only place to set off. With wind gusting down the River Orwell to 26 mph I took a chance on the 7.8 and might have been better with the 8.5 in all but the biggest gusts when the 7.8 was good. I set off toward Felixstowe docks and had several runs reaching to the container ships, beating across the rive to Shotley and then back up river - I even managed a 20kt n/mile, not bad considering the gusty winds. It is good fun sailing here in the river with the yachts and watching the birds :) I was getting peaks of 25kts and then decided to beat up to Levington creek and caught my best gusts here and nearly made 28kts :) sadly the really big gusts were in short supply and couldn't get a really good ave. but am pleased with nearly making 25kts :) I was out on the water 3/4 hours !!!, good fun and a little warmer than of late and as the tide started to came in it chopped up so I called it a day so sailed back up the marina channel and only had to walk through a little mud. I had parked my van next to a tap for the marina and was able to wash my kit down :) Nice session, am now at work for 3 days so that's it for windsurfing this month :( but it's been a good month even if a little chilly with 8 sessions :)
